SUMMARY:Black Shuck Sportive
DESCRIPTION:A unique twilight event\nThe Black Shuck Sportive: Can you keep the the beast of the North Norfolk Coast line at bay? \nAs Legend has it. The huge black hell hound roamed the North Norfolk Coast bringing death to any poor soul (cyclist) that happened to meet it!   The secret of surviving an encounter with this hound was to not stop cycling. \nWith the History lesson over\, this cycling event aims to get everyone back to the event centre around 5pm for a BBQ (socially distancing). Held on a Saturday\, The Black Shuck Sportive gives you an extra day to rest your legs before returning to work and school on Monday. \nA Sell out in 2020 but unfortunately a storm which brought down trees and caused flooding meant we had to cancel the event. This was the 1st time since forming we have had to cancel a event. \nThere are three routes of approx  28 – 30 miles each + a family friendly up to 10 mile route to get the under 16’s and their families out on their bikes. The family route has been designed to have low traffic\, not too many hills and also be rewarding. Best of all you get a brilliant medal to show off to your friends. (average distance approx 8ish miles) \nThe routes have a very good mix of beautiful countryside rolling hills and un-spoilt views. \nThe Thursford Collection will also host the Feed-zone which again will be the normal Norfolk Cycling Events high standard.  Lots of food and drink! \nThis is very much a family friendly event so if your family doesn’t ride they can come along and use the outdoor adventure play area and join you for the post ride BBQ. \nThe Thursford Collection will provide their ‘posh BBQ’  and their bar will also be open. Norfolk Cycling Events will be selling fresh coffee\, tea and home made cakes.

SUMMARY:The Peaks Tour
DESCRIPTION:For our third Tour series event of 2021 we will take you on an adventure through the Peak District National Park. All three routes start at Bakewell showground and head North through the National park making their way to the Hope Valley. \nIn true Peak District fashion there are plenty of both short savage and long enduring climbs on all the routes. But don’t be discouraged\, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views at the top and long winding descents on the way down. \nOn the Long Route you’ll hit the high point at Whetstone Ridge\, but with other climbs including; Mam Tor\, Gun and Sir William’s Hill along the way you’ll feel all 2613m of ascent in your legs by the end. \nWhilst this will certainly be a challenge you won’t want to miss out on the chance to ride this event through the Peak District\, which in the middle of Summer is set to be a glorious day of riding. \nOf course you’ll be rewarded for all your efforts as you cross the finish line to receive a finishers medal\, beer from Freedom Brewery and other goodies from our partners at Jimmy’s Iced Coffee and OTE sports. We look forward to seeing you on the start line in Bakewell in July. \nOur Tour Series events are designed to give you the chance to ride in some of the most beautiful parts of the UK and challenge yourself to distances you wouldn’t do every weekend.

SUMMARY:The Alzheimer's Research UK Cambridgeshire Classic
DESCRIPTION:One of two events in conjunction with our Charity Partners at Alzheimer’s Research UK\, the Cambridgeshire event is part of our Classic Series which has been designed with all riders in mind. There are three routes to choose from and nothing too technical\, so we would love to see as many riders joining us as possible. \nThis event helps raise awareness for the fantastic work Alzheimer’s Research UK does and goes a long way into making breakthroughs for Dementia treatment and care possible. Regardless of which route you choose from the four on offer\, the event will take you on a fantastic ride through the County of Cambridgeshire. \nStarting at Huntingdon Showground all routes head out past Brampton Wood and round the edge of Grafham Water. The Long route undulates continuously along the route clocking up nearly 800m of vertical ascent without ever going over 80m above sea level. \nAll four routes will take you on an adventure out of Cambridgeshire\, across to Bedfordshire and on the Long Route you’ll even briefly ride up into the East Midlands county of Northamptonshire. Across the three routes and three counties\, you’ll be treated to many kilometres of quiet country lane riding with a variety of forestry and farmland lining the route. \nOf course\, you’ll be rewarded for all your efforts as you cross the finish line to receive a finishers medal\, beer from Freedom Brewery and other goodies from our partners at Jimmy’s Iced Coffee and OTE sports. We look forward to seeing you on the start line in August and for you to continue helping ARUK make breakthroughs possible.

SUMMARY:Dunwich Dynamo
DESCRIPTION:Definitely not a sportive\, the Dunwich Dynamo is nevertheless one of the ‘must ride’ events of the summer calendar for many cyclists. 2021 sees the 29th edition of the annual 200km night ride from London Fields in Hackey to Dunwich on the Suffolk Coast. \nThe Dynamo is an unsupported ride that gets bigger every year. From its origins in 1992 when a handful of riders took part to the nearly 3\,000 riders in 2017\, the “Dun Run” or “DD” as regulars call it\, is becoming more and more popular. It is roughly 200km\, although we are told by a recent rider that his Garmin recorded it as 193km. \nThe DD is usually held on the Saturday night/Sunday morning nearest to full moon in July. This is to ensure riders have the maximum amount of moonlight to ride in. The event starts at the Pub in the Park in London Fields with riders leaving between 8pm and 9pm; most get to Dunwich between 7am and 9am\, ready for a quick swim in the sea or a pint in the village pub\, The Ship Inn. \nRiders can buy a route map for the bargain price of £1 but the route is so busy that you can pretty much get by just following the red lights of other cyclists. Riders of all levels of abilities do the Dunwich Dynamo and it is very much a friendly ride rather than a super competitive one. There isn´t too much climbing either and someone in 2011 even finished it on a Boris Bike. \nThere is no official feed stop planned for 2021\, but because of the quantity of riders on the DD there are now a lot of people with pop up stalls in their front gardens\, so remember to bring money to pay for it. There is no mechanical support of any kind so bring plenty of inner tubes\, a pump etc. And don’t forget to bring lights…and spare batteries if you´re not using a dynamo. \nSouthwark Cyclists usually lay on return coaches for riders with trailers for bikes. \nIn 2020 coaches were cancelled over coronavirus concerns. This leaves riders with the option of either riding back to London or to Ipswich\, which is 50km away\, to get a train home. You need to have pre-booked a bike place on the train through Greater Anglia’s reservation page. \nThis is one of the classic rides of the British summer calendar and the original night ride that is now being copied by so many others.

SUMMARY:Tour of the Peaks - Derbyshire
DESCRIPTION:This classic sportive\, named after and on the same route as the original Tour of the Peak road race\, which ran from 1943 through to 2005. Follow in the wheel tracks of some of the top original British bike racers that have graced these roads\, Malcolm Elliot\, Mark Lovatt\, John Tanner\, Chris Lillywhite and Matt Stephens to name just a few. \nHave you got what it takes to attempt this challenging ride? The long route is probably one of the toughest challenges that can be done at 115 Miles and over 10\,000ft of climbing\, it certainly isn’t to be underestimated! A little more tame but still with the killer mile of Winnats Pass\, the medium route is 62 miles but still manages to squeeze in over 5000ft of climbing\, a great starting point if you are looking for a challenge and the long route is just too much! \nBoth routes start from Bakewell Showground\, giving you beautiful surroundings to start and finish your day\, if you get chance\, call in and pick up a Bakewell Pudding\, not to be missed! We certainly did when we last visited. \nA gentle spin to start you off before hitting the first accent of the day just after Ashford will give you a taste of what’s to come\, hills\, hills and more hills! Both routes are fairly relentless giving you most of the top climbs in the Peak District! Winnats Pass sneaks up on you after the beautiful village of Castleton\, a tough Killer Mile Challenge awaits on a fully closed road. \nThe medium route splits from the long route at the top of Winnats Pass if it’s been too much so far\, the choice is yours\, cut out 55 miles and the Holme Moss Climb? Make your choice wisely! Even on the medium route you still have the Cat and Fiddle to look forward to after the routes rejoin before heading back to Bakewell. \nThe long ride\, the ride of heroes\, can you manage three major climbs in one day\, Winnats Pass\, Holme Moss and the Cat and Fiddle? Only the brave should choose this route\, it’s certainly not for the faint hearted. \nBack at Bakewell\, we will have a variety of food\, hot drinks and beer for those needing a stiff drink after possibly the most challenging ride around.
