Dan Collins from KLCC took the first win in the senior men, one hour Mountain Bike event of the Mud Sweat and Gears series held in the
heart of Rendlesham Forest. The conditions were atrocious, with cold wind and heavy rain which soon turned the trails to mud, but Dan came through to win with a good lead over the second place man.
Russell Rout raced in the two hour veterans and came a credible 8th.

The Spalding CC held their Open 27 mile time trial on the undulating, winter damaged roads between Bourne and Grantham, starting in the village of Edenham. The outwards leg pitted the riders against a fresh / strong head wind and the hilly terrain severely tested the legs. Kevin Graves, from the King’s Lynn Cycling Club persevered with his effort and passed the timekeeper in 1:10:49, which placed him in 18th place from a field of the 41 riders. Event Winner :- Joel Wainman (Team Swift) 58:00.
Haverhill wheelers 20 mile 2up and solo time trial was held on a sporting circuit based on roads between Thurlow, Sturmer, Clare and Stradishall. Conditions were unpleasant with heavy rain showers and strong winds. Gary Smith partnered with Simon Hardy rode well together, sharing the work on the harder sections and upping the pace over the last few miles and finished in a time of 53:24 for first place. Jason Gollaglee riding the solo event, found the undulating course to his liking. Home for Easter from university in Cardiff, where the hills on his training runs prepared him well for this event, finishing in 16th place with a time of 53:26 from a field of 47 solo riders. Event winner Mark Arnold 46:16 (www.tt-weekly.com)
The VTTA east Anglian circuit 25 was held on the A1304 near Stetchworth, proceeding towards Newmarket through Bottisham and 6 Mile Bottom to complete the circuit. Colin Bunnett riding his first event of the season finished in a time of 1:04:58. This gave him second place on standard. Jason Nixon riding the non VTTA event produced a time of 1:00:50 giving him second place behind a superb ride by Michael Hutchinson in 51:23 (ingear quickvit)

Great Yarmouth CC promoted their early season 25mile team time trial on the 2 lap course near Somerleyton, on country roads passing through Lound & Bradwell. Gary Rushmore and Martin long had prepared well for this event and this paid off. They started well but after only 400 yds martin’s seat clamp bolt snapped, this meant he had to remain in the saddle for all of the event. This left Gary Rushmore to ride on the front until the finish, when passing the timekeeper in 1:01:36 and first place. In the solo event gary smith gaining more sporting courses points, finished with a creditable time of 1:08:02 14th place. Event winner :- Glen Taylor 58:16 (Shorter Rochford RT).
West Suffolk Wheelers held their 21 mile time trial on a 2 lap course around Risby, Flempton, Lackford and Tuddenham. A keen headwind on the exposed leg from Lackford made the going tough. Simon Hardy was the only KLCC member to enter, and was pleased with his recorded time of 57:48.
Event winner :- Pnut Arnold (www.tt-weekly.com) 47:59
CC Breckland held their open event on 6th March 2010. But due to overhead cable work and a stop/go board on the Rocklands to Ellingham leg, the course was modified on the day. The Start was in Hingham oposite the garage, and the turn was just before entering Watton and the finish was just before the outskirts of Hingham. The weather was bright and sunny but a bitterly cold wind made the return leg tough going. Five members of the Kings Lynn Cycling club entered. Gary Rushmore 23:35, Jason Nixon 24:00, Martin Long 24:33, Gary Smith 25:47 & Simon Hardy 26:26. The combined times of Gary, Jason & Martin secured the Team prize for KLCC.

Ely & District CC - Hardriders
Congratulation to all KLCC members who entered the Ely & District Hardriders. A cold and blustery day met six intrepid competitors from the KLCC. The road conditions were at times treacherous, littered with potholes caused by the frost and mud and stones deposited by tractors from the fields. All the competitors started and finished without incident, except Simon Hardy who punctured 2 miles from the start line. The impromptu stop cost him 5½ minutes, but did not deter him from finishing.
Event winner :- Dan Staite (Cycles Dauphin RT) - 57:14

2009 Season.
The KLCC evening time trials on the Tottenhill Course have now come to an end for another season. A great year for the club with a total of 344 riders signing on for the evening events.
The King's Lynn Cycling Club would also like to thank all of the timekeepers and marshals, without whom, none of the events would have run.

Steve Segasby and Gary Smith and 3 friends took on the challenge of the "Cumbrian Killer". This ride took place on Sunday 20th September. Link 103 miles and climbs upto 30%. Over 500 metres were climbed during the day. Ride of the day must go to Steves partner Nicky who relentlessly completed the course. The climbs took their toll on all of us especially Hardknott pass. After the event it was time for a well earned Pint and a massive piece of "Cow Pie". Here is one riders report of the "Killer"

The
north Norfolk wheelers club 10 mile time trial is held on the A148
between Pretty Corner and Holt. On an evening when conditions were
ideal Gary Rushmore and Steve Bristow rode the event to good effect.
Steve was very satisfied with his effort, checking his time, he had
ridden his best 10 mile for 4 years, in a time of 24:23. Gary Rushmore
was event winner in 22:15.
Colin Bunnett travelled to Sawtry to
ride in the north Hants and district CC 25. The course between sawtry
and Norman cross was part of the old A1 road, and with a few
roundabouts and undulating terrain required riders to concentrate 100%.
Conditions were warm and windy and the outward leg was fast. But the
return leg into the wind slowed Colin considerably. His time of 1:03:56
gave him second vet on standard. Event winner peter Balls 53:53 West
Suffolk wheelers.
The VTTA National championship 30 mile time
trial was held on the Newmarket Sawston road. Weather was fine with a
light south west wind. Riders found this to be a bonus on the open and
exposed section of the course. Colin Bunnett still in good form rode
with a determined effort on the homeward section, to pass the
timekeeper in 1:14:03, an average of 24.3 MPH. Event winner Peter balls
1:03:16 (West Suffolk Wheelers)
The CC Breckland 10 mile time
trial attracted a full field of 120 riders. The ever popular
Attleborough Wymondham course is now gaining national recognition with
its potential for some fast times. This looked in doubt with the wind
assisting riders on the outward leg, but against them on the return to
the finish. Martin long returning from holiday was first Lynn rider to
start and finished in 22:08. Gary Rushmore and Jason Nixon were within
a second of each other in 21:32 & 21:33 respectively. John Howling
finding some late season fitness rode his best time at 10 miles for the
year in 23:24. Catherine Essex took the ladies prize riding at 25 MPH
and finished in 23:46. A new course record was established by Nino
Piccoli (API Metrow) in 18:48, an average speed of 32MPH.
Warm
dry weather making the ground hard is the ideal recipe for grass track
racing; this was a popular form of bicycle racing in the 1930’s up
until the 1960’s. Fen Skaters used these events for summer fitness and
the prize money helped to supplement wages. The Spalding CC held their
open meeting at the local rugby club field. Ken Roesner riding his
800mtr heat came first, this qualified him for the final in which he
was on the podium for 3rd place overall.
Cambridge CC promoted
their autumn 25 over 2 laps of the bottisham, 6 mile bottom,
stetchworth circuit. Daniel Bloy riding only his second open 25 rode
the undulating circuit with a measured effort. This paid off when he
passed the timekeeper in 1:05:27. Simon Hardy riding a course which he
knows well, and making the most of the breezy conditions, he recorded a
1:05:21. Colin Bunnett beat his standard time for a 67 year old veteran
by 15 minutes and 39 seconds, in a time of 1:04:26. Jason Nixon looks
upon every race as a challenge and pulling out all the stops with a 25
MPH ride, claimed 3rd place with 59:41. Event winner Ken Platts 56:30
(Cambridge CC)
The Sudbury CC promoted their 10 mile time trial
on the B10/39r, a hilly course in Suffolk and one counting towards the
SPOCO East competition. Gary Smith suffering slightly from a previous
days racing was pleased to pass the timekeeper with a 25:51. Race
veteran Colin Bunnett passed the timekeeper with a time of 25:21.
Event winner :- Andrew Leggett 22:39.

On
a hot and windy day, 63 riders faced the timekeeper in the Kings Lynn
CC Les Spinks Memorial open 25. The 13½ mile outward leg from Fincham
to Mundford had to be ridden with ‘all out effort’ being the longest
leg into the wind. The blustery wind was not of much assistance on the
return to the finish. Kings Lynn CC riders made up 25% of the field
with 15 entries and fastest was Gary Rushmore 10th in 59:34. Closely
followed by Jason Nixon in 12th place with 59:42. Catherine Essex with
a 1:04:00, fastest lady and Gary and Jason’s times once again gave KLCC
the team award. Other club members were also amongst the award winners

The
most outstanding ride of the day was by Jonathon Fysh, KLCC junior
rider who completed the course in 1:29:03 and second handicap award.
Event Winner :- Dan Staite (Python RT) 55:36
The
hot and windy conditions persisted with the CC Breckland 12 hr, were
the worst that could be wished for, for a long distance time trial. The
course between Thetford and Wymondham is quite exposed and Ken Roesner
was still feeling the effect of the 24 hr ridden 2 weeks ago, but ken
is not a quitter and although not at his best continued to the
finishing circuit near Hingham and finished with a distance of over 200
miles.
Event winner :- Nik Bowdler 287.92 miles (Farnborough and Camberley CC)
Anglia
Velo promoted their annual 10 mile time trial on the popular
Attleborough Besthorpe course. Early morning mist lifted and the 79
riders were greeted with calm and warm conditions, Ideal for fast short
distance time trials. Geoff Allum enjoying his present form, rode to a
years best for 10 miles in 26:20 for a 71 year old. Fellow Veteran
Colin Bunnet won the 65 to 70 year old prize in 22:39. Martin Long
finished with a 22:00 for 12th place. Gary Rushmore, winner of the 40 –
45 year age group in 21:32 for 8th place. Jason Nixon’s excellent form
is holding and he used it to good effect with a personal best ride of
21:00, which earned him 5th place. And the aggregate times of Gary
Jason and Martin once again gave the KLCC the team award.
Event winner :- Mark Arnold 20:12 (API Metrow)
Anne
Hewett rode in the Skegness Wheelers 10 on the A1028 between Ulcerby
and Gunby and for her efforts she received fastest handicap awards and
also the fastest lady and a personal best of 30:30.
Newnham Park 24 hour MTB
Gary
Smith travelled down to Plymouth to compete in a 5 man relay team 24
hour mountain bike competition. The course was a mix of 20% gradients
on and off road, and each lap taking approximately an hour. All was
well until on a long grassy descent, Gary took a major spill, but after
being checked out by a paramedic he was sent on his way. But with a
machine that wouldn’t go into top gear and a cracked helmet his race
was over. Between him and his team, they managed 22 laps and finished
in a creditable 59th place overall. To read the full report, please

A
warm, still, but very muggy evening saw a full field turn up and race.
The evening saw many riders recording PB's, including Jonathon Fysh,
Andy Smith, Steve Segasby & Daniel Bloy. Congratulations go to
Nino Piccoli (API Metrow) who broke the course record with a time of
20:25.
The mental physical preparation that is required to ride a long distance time trial was shown by Ken Roesner when riding in the National Championship 24 hour event, promoted by the Mersey Roads CC. The course was on the border of Wales and North West England, near Farndon in Cheshire between Chester and Witchurch and minor roads in that area, some of which are poorly surfaced and undulating. The event started on Saturday afternoon, riders leaving the timekeeper at 1 minute intervals. Ken Started at 14:00 hrs and covered the first 100 mile in 4 hrs 39 mins with an average speed of 21.5 mph. Conditions were overcast and cool, and with darkness approaching it was time to change into warm clothing as the temperature dropped, but at least there was no wind. The 12 hour point was reached and 238 miles were in the bank. As dawn broke, Ken left the night circuit to continue and rode onto the finishing circuit. At 07:00 the weather turned wet, until 11:00 hrs. Tiredness was now the main consideration, but with the ceaseless assistance with food and drink from wife Elaine, he continued on the finishing circuit and ran out of time with at total distance of 431.43 miles and an average speed of 18 mph. This bought Ken 10th place overall from a total of 57 finishers. And a new KLCC record by 28 miles. Event winner, John Warnock Twickenham CC (497.22 miles).
Diss and District held their annual 25 mile time trial on a traditional course based on the Bressingham/Thetford road. The Breezy conditions slowed the riders, but Dave Counsell riding his first Open Time trial, finished in a very creditable time of 1:09:20. Colin Bunnett, always riding with a positive approach, recorded a time of 1:03:37. Stuart Howlett, now finding form, was pleased with his efforts in 1:01:04 for the distance. Jason Nixon always gives his best and his efforts produced another sub hour ride of 59:35. Event winner :- Lee Bark 55:02 (Stowmarket & District CC)
Martin Long hit the jackpot when riding in the Cambridge University CC 25 near Newmarket. The early morning start was beneficial as conditions were cool and calm. Martin took full advantage of this, turning on the power, riding at 25 MPH plus, and finished in a personal best of 56:03. Event winner :- Nino Piccoli 50:29 (API-Metrow)
Jason Nixon using the Ely and District club 16 mile circuit event on the Ely Littelport Welney Ely circuit for some fast training, negotiated the minor and B class roads to good effect and was pleased with his 39:42 ride and second fastest. Event winner :- Ben Price. 38:14
It
is not very often that all the elements required to enable the racing
cyclist to perform well, come together, but this did occur for the
Cambridge CC 10 mile event between Newmarket and Fourwentways. The
outward leg was into a light south west wind. But it was not a problem
for the King’s Lynn Riders. The return leg was extremely fast, with
speeds of over 30 MPH. Gary Rushmore having just returned from a
holiday in Spain, scorched passed the time keeper in a time 20:59 a
personal best at the distance. Jason Nixon closely followed with a ride
of 21:02 also a personal best. Martin long in excellent form produced
another PB with a time of 21:39. Super Veteran Colin Bunnett was very
satisfied with his 22:22 effort, but the ride of the day was produced
by Catherine Essex. Her smooth pedaling style paid off and her time of
22:12 was a personal best and a new KLCC ladies 10 mile record. Event
winner Peter Balls 19:25 (West Suffolk Wheelers)

With another strong headwind on the first leg to the Bexwell roundabout, the evening started tough. With the wind following on the other two legs, high speeds were easily achieved and this reflected in the times posted.
Well done to Dave Counsell for posting a PB on his new machine.
The
EDCA 25 mile championship was held on the windswept Fenland course
based on the Terrington St. John bypass. Simon Hardy rode out to the
event using it as a warm-up and his time of a 1:03:15 reflected it.
Gary Smiths effort in the windy conditions paid off when passing the
timekeeper in 1:01:07. Geoff Allum enjoying the event was happy with
his ride of 1:13:25 beating his vet standard by 10 minutes. Colin
Bunnet was the fastest vet on std in a time of 1:01:05 beating his
standard by 20 minutes and receiving the vets gold medal. Stuart
Howlett now coming into form rode well against the wind for a sub hour
ride of 59:09. Jason Nixon slipped a gear just after starting and this
minor distraction caused him to lose a few seconds but still finished
strongly in 58:11. Martin Long rides well on flat non-technical courses
and although conditions were not ideal still finished in an excellent
time of 58:00. Martin Jason & Stuart’s aggregate time of 2:55:20
gave KLCC the fastest team award. Event Winner: - Peter Balls (West
Suffolk Wheelers) 53:13.
Chasing Spoco points Gary Smith and
Simon Hardy travelled to Essex to ride the Victoria CC open 10.2 mile
time trial on the B1383 between Audley end and great chesterford. The
rolling nature of the course coupled with a brisk wind required all out
effort by the Lynn riders Simons effort paid off with an excellent time
of 25:04 and gaining 107 points. Gary was rewarded with a 25:27 and 104
points. Event Winner James Hawkins :21:46 (Cambridge University CC).
Team
Economic Energy promoted their 10 mile time trial on the super fast
Newmarket bypass. Martin Long once again missed his goal of a sub 21
minute ride on passing the timekeeper in 21:51. Gary Rushmore was on a
super ride catching riders that had started in front of him and within
sight of the finish suffered a chain derailment having then to dismount
and scooted along to finish, and was given a time of around 24 minutes.
Event winner Craig Simpson 19:18.
An Excellent entry for the
Nev Crane memorial 25 was organized by the Sleaford wheelers. Nev Was a
prolific rider from the 60’s and 70’s. A milk race rider (tour of
Britain) and also selected for international events. He was a member of
the Boston wheelers, then the Sleaford club. Nev did not disappear from
cycling after his competing days, organizing events, and running his
cycle business. 14 ladies had entered the event, Catherine Essex always
giving her best, rode at a 110% on the tough course between Donnington
and Sleaford. Narrowly beaten into second place, her time of 1:03:28
and 37th place, not quite enough for winner, that being Louise day
1:03:05 (Fatbirds CC).
Gary Smith riding this sporting type of
course which he enjoys, turned in a time which he was satisfied with
his 1:03:10 for 35th place. Simon Hardy’s first time on the course, was
pleased to be quite close to his best 25 time on such a tough course
and finished in 1:03:21 for 36th Place. Wayne randall now riding time
trials after a superb roadman’s career stormed around the course in a
time of 52:44 for first place, course and event record, and a total of
£245 in prizes. (Planet X CC).

With
a stiff head wind, coming slightly from the right, all the way to the
Bexwell roundabout, the first leg was quite tough. With a tail wind to
the Stradsett turn, speeds increased and spirits were lifted. The
final leg to the finish line, with roadside hedges and trees, had no
real benefit from the prevailing wind, but this didn't deter the riders
from posting some really quick times. Congratulations to Daniel Bloy,
who on his first outing as a KLCC member passed the timekeeper with a
cracking time of 25:26 and securing 3 club points. Well done to Simon
Hardy for his PB tonight of 23:55.

The
Start of the Godric CC 50 mile time trial incorporating the EDCA
championship was delayed due to heavy mist, on the popular
Attleborough, Besthorpe, Eccles road course. When the conditions
improved they proved to be ideal and the times recorded by riders
reflected this. With the benefit of the 100 mile event still in their
legs, the KLCC competitors produced excellent rides. 20 year old Jason
Gollaglee riding his first 50 beat the magic 2 hour barrier with a time
of 1:58:57. Simon Hardy pulled out all the stops to produce a PB of
2:03:29, an improvement of 21 minutes and 45 seconds and first
handicap. Gary Rushmore concentrating on races up to 50 miles and
having intimate knowledge of the course, used this to full advantage to
finish in 1:52:44 for a Personal Best and 7th Place. Ken Roesner’s diet
of long distance training and events, rode strongly and was pleased
with his efforts, once again beating 2 hours with a time of 1:54:29 and
10th place. Veteran Colin bunnett’s experience showed that this was a
vital ingredient when riding 50 mile events, pacing himself and passing
the timekeeper in 1:59:51 for Silver medal in the Vet’s Section and a
first time for beating 2 hours. A superb effort by the club with all
members starting and completing the event and for beating the 2 hour
barrier.
Event winner :- Lee bark (Stowmarket & District CC) 01:45:29
For
the CC Breckland 10, the easterly breeze lasted for the duration of the
event and made the first 5 miles hard work for the riders on the
Attleborough, Besthorpe course. Jason Nixon always ready to ride to the
limit produced the fastest ride of the KLCC trio for the 10 miles in
21:45. Martin Long, still knocking on the 21 minute door, was almost
there with his time of 22:13. Gary Rushmore having a problem with his
breathing again in the first few miles, overcame it and passed the
timekeeper in a time of 22:38.
Event winner :- Nino Piccoli (API Metrow) 19:57.
The
Norwich ABC promoted their annual 25 mile time trial on the course that
has produced some of the fasted rides in East Anglia this year. Early
showers cooled the air and loaded it with Oxygen which assists the
riders breathing. Starting near Attleborough some early starters rode
the first 12.5 miles in light rain, but the warmth and calm conditions
enables KLCC riders to produce some excellent times. Jason Nixon pulled
out all the stops to finish in a PB time for 25 miles of 55:52. Stuart
Howlett aware of other riders' problems with punctures, rode cautiously
in the wet as the roads dried out he piled on the pressure and passed
the timekeeper in 57:02 for a PB at that distance. Gary Rushmore an
early starter probably missed a PB due to the wet conditions but he
still finished strongly in a time of 55:42. Catherine Essex managed to
fit in a ride in between her busy work and was delighted with her time
of 58:51 for the fastest lady award.

21/06/09 East District Cycling Association 100 mile Championship
Riding a 100 mile time trial may seem a little daunting to some people, but 4 members of the KLCC approached the task with good preparation and training. The East District CA 100 mile Championship, based on four 25 mile circuits between Attleborough Larling & Attleborough, Cool windless conditions made for some good times for the Lynn riders. Experienced Ken Roesner had wife Elaine helping with handing up food and drink. Ken Started with a steady pace, not wishing to over cook in what turned out to be perfect conditions for a long distance event. The 50 mile point was passed in a little over 2 hours, and with a possible sub 4 hour ride in view, ken increased his pace catching some of the back markers and finishing with a personal best time of 3:57:54, 25.221 MPH and EDCA Silver medal winner. Gary Smith having ridden a 100 mile sportive event some weeks ago in th counties of Derbyshire and Staffordshire, generated to racing a 100 mile TT. Ably assisted by wife Rebekah, and club secretary Brian, he rode confidently and although starting to slow over the final miles, picked up the pace with encouragement from his helpers and finished his first 100 mile TT in 4:31:37. Jason Gollaglee, the youngest member of the quartet, rode exceptionally well, keeping the gears low so as not to incur any problems with cramp, and with plenty of drinks to keep well hydrated, handed up by dad Nick, the youngest entrant passed the timekeeper with a time of 4:34:51. Ever increasing Simon Hardy, started with high spirits and full of confidence and with a positive attitude that he would complete the distance. Riding a new machine purchased 2 days before the event he had set himself a schedule to achieve a sub 5-hour ride. Helper Kevin Younge, himself and experienced long distance cyclist, gave food and drink and encouragement to Simon, this enabled him to finish with his target achieved with a time of 4:58:56. King’s Lynn CC narrowly missed the team award by 2 minutes to the VC Baracchi.
Event Winner :- Nik Bowdler 3:37:08 (Farnborough & Camberely CC)
13/06/09 Shaftesbury CC Open 50 mile Time Trial
A good day was had by all while competing in the Shaftesbury CC 50 mile TT. Held on the Newmarket Fourwentways red lodge course. Although the weather was fine apart from the strong SW wind that hindered the return home, the high temperature called for regular drinks and high resolve to complete the course. Jason Nixon, still holding his form rode to an excellent personal best time at 50 miles in 1:55:06. Gary Rushmore riding strongly and just missing out on a PB by 14 seconds, in a sub 2 hour ride of 1:55:12. Gary Smith in his first 50 of the year, passed the time keeper in 2:02:51, a ride that was also a PB. One obstacle that riders don't normally face was in Red Lodge, that of a mini Glastonbury festival and the revellers wer staggring all over the road/course.
Event winner - riding his monster 77 tooth front chainring was Nik Bowdler 1:41:06 (Farnborough & Camberely CC).
18/06/09 East Anglian CC Open 10 mile TT
The East Anglian CC had favourable conditions for their evening 10 mile TT on the popular Attleborough Wymondham course. Entry was restricted to 60 riders, this condition had attracted a quality field of short distance riders. Martin Long just beginning to find form rode to a satisfying PB of 21:42. Gary Rushmore close on his heels crossing the line with a time of 21:47. Jason Nixon Just missing out on s sub 22 ride this probably due to riding three events in three successive days, which took the edge off his speed, but his time of 22:01 was an excellent performance and evidence of his potential in future events.
Jason Nixon crossed the county border to ride the Ely and district club 10 on the Witchford, Sutton, Witchford course. Jason stamped his authority on the event to finish in a time of 21:47 and first place.
Veteran Geoff Allum rode the Lincs RRA 25 between Donington and Sleaford. Hot and windy conditions combined with the poorly surfaced roads, slowed riders considerably. Geoff’s time of 1:14:44 for him a little disappointing. In complete contrast a few days later, in the VTTA East Anglian 25 based on the super fast course between Newmarket and the Fourwentways. Geoff rode to his best 25 time since 2002 beating his standard time for a 71 year old of 1:23:07 in a time of 1:07:12 a plus of 16:25.
Event winner :- Peter Balls 50:24 (West Suffolk Wheelers).
Gary Rushmore’s effort almost paid of in the Spalding CC 25. The morning weather was fine but the undulating nature of the course coupled with some bad road surfaces slowed him considerably and he once again had to settle for second fastest with a time of 58:55.
Event winner :- Gary Breezer 58:08 (RAF CC )

The
cycling time trials national 25 mile championship was promoted by the
East District Cycling Association. Four Kings Lynn Cycling Club riders
had been accepted for the men’s event, and one for the ladies. Jason
Nixon returning from a week’s holiday was on top form, well focused and
prepared. Starting in Attleborough, and using the A11 to Wymondham
course, he passed the twelve and a half mile marker in 30:21. He pulled
out all the stops in the second half in 26:55 passing the timekeeper in
57:16. A 26.193 MPH ride and a PB at 25 miles. Gary Rushmore a little
disappointed with his effort, finished in 57:57. Ken Roesner’s diet of
long distance training in preparation for the 24 hour championship paid
dividends with a time of 58:32. Martin Long rode with caution on the
wet roads at the turn, therefore losing a little time, but still beat
the 25 MPH barrier in a time of 58:58, an excellent effort with all the
riders beating the magic 25 MPH barrier.
Men’s Champion :- Michael Hutchinson 48:23 (31.002 MPH ingear quickvit R.T.)
Catherine
Essex riding in the ladies event, and starting much earlier than the
men, had to ride in damp and cooler conditions. Catherine did not let
this deter her from the task in question, and using the backwind leg to
good effect, finished strongly in a time of 1:02:58.
Ladies Champion :- Julie Shaw 55:18 (UTAG.Yamaha.com).
The
East District Cycling Association Championship 10 mile, held on the
Attleborough/Wymondham course, in good conditions. The cool easterly
wind although not helpful on the outward leg, it helped the riders to
the finish after the turn. Jason Nixon taking full advantage of the
wind assisted leg, rode to a Personal Best Time of 21:13, an excellent
third place and EDCA Bronze medal. Gary Rushmore also in the 21 minute
groove, finished in 21:30. Ken Roesner’s time of 22:12 clinched the
team award for the KLCC with an aggregate time of 1:05:55. Martin Long

the timekeeper in 22:20. Colin Bunnett riding in the veterans section
covered the course in 23:03. Gold Medal for First Veteran on standard.
Jason Gollaglee incurred a late start and was awarded a 29:22, his
actual time on the road a satisfying 23:38.
Event winner :- James Eman 20:32 (Anglia Velo).
In
the Lee Valley CC 50 between Red Lodge and Fourwentways was held with a
strong easterly wind, which slowed some riders and at times conditions
were so tough that quite a few riders abandoned. Catherine Essex riding
at her favourite distance ploughed through the wind and finished with a
very creditable time of 2:06:31.
Fastest Lady :- Avril Swan 1:57:35
Ken
Roesner’s strength and ability to ride in adverse conditions enabled
him to break the magic 2 hour barrier for 50 miles and finished in a
time of 1:58:53

Team Swift 50 mile TT. 16/05/2009
Catherine Essex, Gary Smith and Ken Roesner travelled to Tuxford for what proved to be very testing conditions. A combination of gale force winds and heavy showers made for a battle of survival. Unfortunately Catherine punctured before the start. Gary rode his first 50 of the season in 2hr 10m 53sec and Ken managed to get round in 2hr 01m 53sec. Many riders on the day decided not to start due to the poor conditions and the majority of those that finished ended up with times well outside their personal bests.
Long-distance star and former BBAR, Andy Wilkinson (Port Sunlight Wheelers) was fastest in Team Swift’s 50-mile promotion, in a fantastic time of 1-48-14.

Ely
and District CC opened their evening time trial series with a 4 mile
circuit being ridden twice. Starting in Sutton, to Witcham, then Meeple
and then back to Sutton. Jason Nixon, gaining confidence, now into his
second season, and in very good form, passed the timekeeper in 18:19.
This was an excellent ride, and in doing so, pushed Alan Newark of the
Planet X team into second place. His time being 10 seconds slower
(18:29).
On 2nd April Gary Smith ventured into Lincs to compete in the Spalding CC Hilly TT the event took place between Bourne and Grantham racing mainly on B roads. It was a definite test for the legs which resulted in 15th place in a time of 1:13:07. Event winner Brett Harwood stormed round in a time of 59:25.
The
A1066 road between Bressingham and Thetford was the course for the Diss
and District 25 mile time trial. Ken Roesner had opted to ride the
fixed wheel section of the event which meant riders were restricted to
a gear of 72”. Which means one revolution of the pedals drives the bike
forward 72”.
The
strong breeze on the outward leg was of no help to Ken, which was his
first time trial of the season. After the turn at Thetford, the tail
wind lifted speed and spirits and he passed the timekeeper with a time
of 01:11:35.
Event winner :- Lee Desborough (Ely and District CC) 1:02:50
